Member Services, Safeguards, and Educational Materials from New Directions Behavioral Health

What exactly does a "managed behavioral healthcare company" do?

New Directions Behavioral Health provides utilization, network, and quality management for Members who use behavioral health care services. Our mission is to "enhance the well being of our members and clients through access to quality behavioral health care services, support, and solutions.

Members call us to find out where to go for treatment of emotional, psychological and psychiatric difficulties. We provide the following services:

  • Network operations - to credential providers and maintain easy access to treatment resources
  • Referral - to the appropriate level of care and the appropriate practitioner, whether psychiatrist, psychologist or psychotherapist
  • Preauthorization of care -- to ease the claims payment process
  • Concurrent review - to help Members go from one level of care to another when they're ready
  • Care Management - to coordinate care, especially for Members with multiple needs
  • Prevention Programs - to give information and support to Members during vulnerable times
  • Quality Management - to maintain high standards in New Directions' operations and throughout the care delivery system

New Directions Behavioral Health makes utilization management decisions based only on whether you have coverage and on the appropriateness of the level of care requested. New Directions Behavioral Health does not specifically reward practitioners or other individuals for denying coverage or service care. Financial incentives for utilization management decision makers do not encourage decisions that result in under-utilization
